Konya in Turkey is home to the famous 13th century Sufi poet Rumi and best known for its whirling dervish performances. This Sufi dance, known as the sema (“physically active meditation”) is all about reaching the source of all perfection, or as they call it: kemal. Be sure to drop by the Mevlana Cultural Center, where this beautiful tradition is held twice a week.
“Whosoever knoweth the power of the dance, dwelleth in God.” – Rumi.
