Uglich is a historic Russian town in Yaroslavl Oblast located on the Volga River. Here you will find a beautiful architectural site called the Transfiguration Cathedral which is also an important pilgrim place for the Christians! This five-domed beauty once held the remains of Prince Dimitry, the youngest son of Czar Ivan IV (“Ivan the Terrible”), which were later transported to Moscow. Inside you will find frescoes as well as painted icons – of particular importance the “Transfiguration” which is a perfect copy of the one by Italian artists Guido Reni, Guercino, and Domenichino. If you get lucky, you may also be treated to a short concert by a small group of Capella singers.
Fantastic picture by Mary Quincy.
