If you are planning a trip to Netherlands, why not visit the De Haar Castle located about half an hour away from Amsterdam in Utrecht. It is the largest and most luxurious castle in the country and boasts of a beautiful garden, romantic chapel and beautiful parks nearby. It was erected by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers who built it between 1892 and 1912 as well as Hendrik Copijn who was involved in the garden work. It is a delight to stroll past the water bodies, kitchen gardens and aviaries and discover the various French influences too. Did you know that the Rose Garden housing over 1200 roses in 79 different species was actually grown to commemorate the life of Hélin, Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt’s eldest son, who perished in a traffic accident at the age of 24? A must visit!
